The Alexia Foundation promotes the power of photojournalism to give voice to social injustice, to respect history lest we forget it and to understand cultural difference as our strength – not our weakness.

Through grants, scholarships and special projects, The Alexia Foundation supports photographers as agents for change. Each year the Foundation conducts a competition for student and professional photographers at Syracuse University. The professional grant is for $15,000 and the student receives a tuition paid semester at the Syracuse University campus in London. The competition is open to student and professional photographers throughout the world.

At a time when many other resources have dwindled, The Alexia Foundation remains unwavering in its commitment to support photojournalism on academic and professional levels. We strongly believe that there is no stronger force in bringing us closer to the world we inhabit.

Domestic violence is a largely invisible crime. We usually only hear it muffled through walls, and we usually only see it manifested in the faded yellow and purple bruises of a woman who "walked into a wall" or "fell down the stairs." It is rarely limited to one event, and it rarely stops. My project seeks to portray domestic abuse as a process, as opposed to a single incident, examining how a pattern of abuse develops and eventually crests, as well as its short and long -term effects on victims, their families and their abusers.

Both man-made and accidental fires are an omnipresent threat bringing death and injury to the working class communities of Dhaka in the slum, garment factories and the shopping malls. Corrupt officials who ignore building codes and greedy businessmen who bypass fire protection have both made home and work spaces death traps. Because the city has grown too quickly, lack of fire safety precaution is everywhere.
The impact, however, is most visible in the garment industry of Bangladesh, which is also the country's most successful business sector, earning $19 billion from exports last year alone. Factory fires have killed 600 garment workers since 2005.
